The Chief Executive Officer of Closer TV, Itutumeni Johnson Ogbomade, has pledged the support of his organisation for the campaign by the United Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Bayelsa State against drug abuse, cultism and cybercrime in secondary schools.
Ogbomade gave the assurance on Tuesday when members of the chapel visited the Closer TV office in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He said the chapel is made up of thorough professionals and that the visit would spur the online TV platform to do more.
He noted that Closer TV had been involved in youth empowerment and skills development for young people in the state.
Ogbomade lamented that drug abuse, cultism and cybercrime had become rampant among youths.
He said, “Drug abuse, cultism and cybercrime have eaten deep into the lives of our youths. A lot of young lives have been wasted. The matter you want to take to schools to sensitise these young ones is a good one and we will give our total support, especially in the area of publicity.”
He added that the station would soon begin full broadcast from its new facility, which has a standard studio, 24-hour power supply, Starlink internet for live streaming and batteries that can last 48 hours.
He appealed to members of the chapel to project the activities of Closer TV, which he said is owned by a young Bayelsan and committed to telling the Bayelsa story.
Earlier, the Chairman of the United Correspondents Chapel, Ekaunkumo Amgbare, said the chapel, which comprises correspondents of national dailies and broadcast stations in Bayelsa, was ready to partner with credible media organisations.
Amgbare lauded Closer TV for growing rapidly to become one of the leading digital media platforms in the state.
He said the visit was to seek collaboration to strengthen journalism and appreciate the platform for promoting the state.
He said the chapel would in September begin a sensitisation programme in selected secondary schools across the state and sought the support of Closer TV for publicity.(Naija News Spank)
