The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, has attributed the achievements recorded by the Union under his leadership to the collective efforts, support and cooperation of members of the National Executive Council (NEC).
Yahya, while appreciating NEC members for their continued support and commitment to the ideals of the Union, stressed that sustaining the gains recorded by the NUJ would require greater unity, understanding and collective commitment among journalists.
He made the remarks during a recent engagement with members of the Union’s National Executive Council, where NEC members commended his leadership, describing his tenure as purposeful, progressive and focused on the welfare and professional development of journalists across Nigeria.
The NEC members applauded Yahya for what they described as his strong commitment to improving the welfare of journalists, promoting professionalism and ensuring that the NUJ remains a strong and united voice in defending the rights and interests of its members.
They noted that since assuming office, the NUJ President had demonstrated purposeful leadership by carrying members along, maintaining regular consultations and engaging NEC members and other relevant stakeholders on issues affecting the journalism profession.
According to the NEC members, Yahya’s leadership has contributed to strengthening unity within the Union while creating greater attention to issues concerning the welfare, safety and professional growth of journalists.
They expressed confidence in his leadership and pledged their continued support and cooperation towards achieving the objectives of the NUJ.
The NEC members also called on journalists across the country to remain united and support the leadership of the Union, stressing that a united NUJ would be better positioned to protect the rights of journalists and promote a stronger, more vibrant and respected journalism profession.
Responding, Yahya said the commendation was a reflection of the collective responsibility of the leadership and members of the Union.
He reiterated that the progress of the NUJ could not be achieved by one individual, but through the collective efforts of NEC members, state councils, chapels and individual journalists working together towards advancing the ideals of the profession.
The NUJ President therefore urged members to sustain the spirit of unity and cooperation, assuring that the leadership would remain committed to promoting the welfare, professional development and interests of journalists while strengthening the Union’s role in national development.
