NUJ FCT Chairman Grace Ike Reaffirms Chapel Authority, Applauds Journalists’ Ethical Reportage
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has praised members of the council for their commitment to ethical journalism and responsible reportage.
Ike made the commendation during the NUJ FCT Congress held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, where she highlighted the professionalism displayed by journalists in their coverage of issues affecting society.
In her opening remarks, the NUJ FCT Chairman urged members to always channel their concerns through their respective chapel chairmen before bringing such matters to the council leadership.
She explained that the chapel system remains the foundation of the union’s structure and must be respected to ensure proper coordination, accountability, and effective administration.
Ike stated that whenever a member contacts her office over any issue, her first question would be whether the matter had been presented to the concerned chapel chairman.
She maintained that where a member has failed to engage the chapel leadership, she would not attend to the matter until the appropriate process has been followed.
According to her, the directive is aimed at strengthening internal communication, promoting unity among members, and ensuring that issues are properly addressed within the framework of the union.
She also encouraged journalists in the FCT Council to continue upholding the ethics of the profession and remain committed to credible and impactful journalism.(Don Blaze Media)
