The leadership of Signature Television has changed hands as its President and Chief Executive Officer, Ebubedike Vin Martin Obiora Ilo, steps down following his appointment to a political role with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ilo resigned with immediate effect after accepting the position of Chief Technical Adviser to the NDC National Chairman, saying the partisan nature of the assignment made it inappropriate for him to continue overseeing the affairs of a media organisation.
The Board of Signature Communications Limited, owners of Signature TV, said the decision was taken to preserve the station’s editorial independence and prevent possible conflicts of interest ahead of the 2027 elections.
Although Ilo will retain his status as a shareholder, the company stressed that he would no longer participate in the station’s daily management or editorial decisions.
His exit marks a significant transition for Signature TV, with the Board appointing veteran broadcaster and media executive Dr. Ken Ike Okere as Interim President and CEO.
Okere is the Rector of the West Africa Broadcast & Media Academy and has more than two decades of experience across print, radio, television and digital journalism. His previous roles include senior positions at Radio Nigeria, FRCN and the National Broadcast Academy.
The Board said his appointment would ensure stability while the company navigates the leadership transition.
Signature TV also reaffirmed its commitment to independent journalism, promising fair and professional coverage of political parties, candidates and issues of public interest as the country heads towards the 2027 general elections.
The Board thanked Ilo for his contributions to the organisation and wished him well in his new political assignment.(New Sense Ng)
