The new Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, CP Ajao Adewale, has assured residents of an enabling environment to carry out their lawful duties without fear or intimidation.
Adewale also called for stronger collaboration between the Police Command and journalists in the fight against crime and insecurity in the state.
The Commissioner made the call on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, and other union leaders at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre in Yenagoa.
He described the media as a critical partner in maintaining public safety, stressing that security was a shared responsibility.
“Under my watch, the Nigerian Police will create the enabling environment for everyone to perform their lawful duties without fear or intimidation,” Adewale said.
He announced an open-door policy for the Command, assuring journalists of 24-hour access to report incidents and draw the attention of the police to developments requiring security intervention.
On discipline and drug abuse within the force, the CP said discipline remained the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force and warned officers against indiscipline and violations of operational guidelines.
He also pledged continued collaboration with sister security agencies, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the State Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to tackle crime and drug abuse.
Adewale further assured residents of adequate policing across the state.
Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Yemoleigha, welcomed the Commissioner to Bayelsa and assured him of the media’s readiness to partner with the police in promoting peace, security and development.
He expressed optimism that the union would maintain a cordial and sustained relationship with the Police Command.
The NUJ Zonal Secretary, Comrade John Angese, also commended the Commissioner for the visit and wished him a successful tour of duty and subsequent elevation.(Crystal News)
