The Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State (SSG), Dr. Labaran Magaji, SAN, has encouraged members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Commission to embrace innovation, creativity, and initiative in advancing the role of women in governance and public service.
Dr. Magaji gave the charge on Tuesday, 18 February 2026, when he received officials of the NLC Women Commission in his office.
Those in attendance included Mrs. Wucici Tanze of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), Comrade Khadijat Abdulsalam, and other members of the Commission.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Comrade Khadijat Abdulsalam said the visit was to appreciate the SSG and the Nasarawa State Government for their support to women, and to seek stronger synergy with the government in promoting women’s participation in governance and public service.
She stressed that women should be encouraged and fully integrated into decision-making processes, particularly within the Nigeria Labour Congress, adding that women must not be sidelined in any movement or developmental initiative in the state.
In his response, Dr. Magaji described Governor Abdullahi A. Sule as a female-friendly leader, noting that his administration has consistently promoted gender inclusion since the creation of the state.
He cited the appointment of a woman as Head of Service, the emergence of Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu as the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, and the recent federal appointment of Halima Jabiru into the Federal Character Commission as evidence of the administration’s commitment to gender equity.
According to the SSG, the present administration operates without gender bias and provides equal opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to governance.
He further urged members of the Women Commission to remain organised, work collectively, and engage government constructively whenever the need arises. He encouraged them to write on contemporary issues affecting women and their roles in society, stressing the importance of building capacity, being innovative, creative, and proactive in their daily engagements.
Dr. Magaji also advised the women to document and publish their experiences and contributions in a book to enlighten the public on the role of women in societal development.
The meeting ended with a group photograph session between the SSG and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress Women Commission.
