The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to urgently intervene in the critical condition of the General Hospital in the State.

Members of the assembly are also demanding for the immediate deployment of additional healthcare personnel and essential amenities to restore operations to the decaying facilities.

During Wednesday’s plenary session in Lafia, Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau presented the House resolution following a motion of public importance raised by Hon. Hajarat Danyaro (APC-Nasarawa Central).

The Assembly resolved to prompt the Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board to dispatch more medical staff, specifically doctors and nurses to the General Hospital in Nasarawa Local Government.

They also advocated for a state-wide upgrade of equipment and infrastructure across all general hospitals to improve healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Hon. Danyaro described the facility as a major health hazard, revealing that only a single physician and a nurse are currently left to manage up to 30 patients simultaneously.

She expressed frustration over the total absence of basic utilities, noting that patients are routinely forced to supply their own water due to severe utility failures and poor sanitation.

According to Danyaro, repeated appeals to the Hospitals Management Board yielded no results, prompting her to request for a formal state of emergency at the facility.

She specifically urged the state to reassign local medical professionals suggesting at least three doctors and ten nurses back to serve their home constituency.

Supporting the motion, lawmakers including Hon. Yusuf Aliyu Chunbaya and Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala emphasised that the legislature would not overlook the deterioration of public health centers across the state.

The Speaker instructed the Clerk of the House, Mr. Ibrahim Abdulazeez Musa to formally convey the resolution to Governor Sule for swift executive action.
