The Nasarawa State Government has recruited 1,000 teachers for primary schools in rural communities across the state, the State Universal Basic Education Board has said.
The Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Kassim Mohammed-Kassim, disclosed this on Wednesday, adding that successful applicants would begin receiving text messages confirming their selection from Wednesday evening.
Mohammed-Kassim said the appointment letters would be ready for collection by 2pm on Thursday.
He said the recruitment was aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified teachers in rural and hard-to-reach communities, where inadequate staffing had continued to affect teaching and learning.
According to him, 21,452 applicants certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria participated in the exercise, which was specifically advertised for candidates willing to work in rural communities.
The chairman said successful candidates would be posted strictly to rural schools, advising applicants unwilling to serve in such locations not to apply.
He also assured that the selection process would be based on merit, irrespective of applicants’ backgrounds or connections.
The recruitment followed the state government’s approval for the employment of 1,000 additional teachers to strengthen basic education and address staffing gaps across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas.
NSUBEB had earlier disclosed that about 4,000 qualified teachers were working in administrative offices and had commenced their redeployment to classrooms. In December 2025, Mohammed-Kassim said 1,009 teachers had already been redeployed, with plans to move another 1,000.
The chairman identified teacher shortages, poor infrastructure, inadequate furniture and improper deployment as some of the challenges facing basic education in the state. He added that the board had procured 30,000 tables and chairs for distribution to public schools.
Mohammed-Kassim urged successful applicants to monitor their phones for notification messages and follow the instructions contained in them, stressing that the appointment letters would be available from 2pm on Thursday.(The News Pointer)
