A suspected drug dealer was, on Sunday, arrested at the Apata area of the Ibadan metropolis by operatives of the Oyo State Police Command.
The male suspect, identified as Rilwan, aged 28, was arrested at about 0800hrs, following credible intelligence received by the Command.
Details of the arrest were stated in a press release by the state PPRO, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
He disclosed that it was part of sustained efforts to rid the state of crime and criminality, including one of the most potent catalysts of crime and criminality — hard drugs.
As stated in the release, operatives of the Iyaganku Area Command, acting on intelligence surveillance, commenced targeted surveillance operations which culminated in the arrest of the suspect.
Reportedly recovered from him were a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, alongside other suspected dangerous drugs.
It was stated in the release that the suspect is in police custody and cooperating with investigators.
Preliminary investigation continued to establish the source and extent of his involvement in the illicit drug trade, as well as identify other persons who may be connected to the activities.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has restated the determination of the Command to sustain intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
He noted that illicit drugs constituted a significant catalyst for various forms of crime and criminality.
He further assured that the Command will continue to work assiduously to identify and disrupt the supply chains of catalytic elements of crime, particularly illicit drugs, while strengthening intelligence-led policing and proactive operations across the State.
It was stated in the press release that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of preliminary investigation.
Meanwhile, members of the public have been encouraged to continue providing credible and actionable information to the police to enable the Command to further strengthen its fight against crime and criminality in Oyo State.(News Coven)
