Three suspected members of the notorious Shilla gang in Adamawa State have each been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment without an option of fine for criminal conspiracy and extortion.
The convicts, Sanusi Umar, 19; Mohammed Magaji, 17; and Yakubu Ibrahim, 20, all residents of Zango Ward, Yola North Local Government Area, were sentenced by the Chief Magistrate Court II, Yola, presided over by Chief Magistrate Dorcas J. Mavah.
The court sentenced each of the convicts to three years’ imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and seven years for extortion, bringing the total term to 10 years each.
The Adamawa State Police Command said the trio were arrested by operatives of the Doubeli Police Station following a complaint lodged by their victim.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the convicts allegedly conspired and armed themselves with a cutlass before attacking Bello Yusuf of Anguwan Tana, Yola North LGA, on September 9, 2026, and extorting his Smart P-30 mobile phone valued at N42,000.
Nguroje said the charges and contents of the First Information Report were read and explained to the accused persons in court, after which they pleaded guilty. Following their pleas, the police prosecutor applied for a summary trial, which was granted by the court.
The court subsequently convicted the three men and sentenced each to 10 years’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
Reacting to the conviction, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the officers and personnel involved in the arrest, investigation and prosecution of the case.
Hassan reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards Shilla gangsterism, extortion, street violence and other forms of criminality, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information on criminal activities in their communities.
He assured the public that the command would continue working relentlessly to make Adamawa State safer.(News Pointer Newspaper)
