PN360/NA…The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, alias Imole (Light) of the Accord Party as the winner of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
INEC Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced the result on Sunday morning after overnight collation of results from all 30 local government areas of the state.
Adeleke, who was seeking a second term in office, won 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in 11 councils.
Adeleke recorded his largest vote total in Osogbo Local Government Area, where he polled 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474.
He also won Ede North with 35,427 votes to Oyebamiji’s 10,283 and Ede South with 26,188 votes against 6,219 for the APC candidate.
Other local government areas won by Adeleke included Ife East, Ife Central, Iwo, Oriade, Egbedore and Ejigbo, among others.
Oyebamiji’s strongest performance came in Irewole, where he scored 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934, while he also won Ilesa East, Boripe, Obokun, Atakumosa West and several other councils.
Ogunwole declared that Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, was hereby declared the winner and returned elected.
The election was contested by 15 candidates, with 1,906,390 of the 2,399,233 registered voters collecting their Permanent Voter Cards and eligible to vote across 3,763 polling units in the state.(Prime News 360)
