Jigawa Governor Showcases His Administration’s Achievements Before NUJ Leadership

Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, North West Nigeria, has outlined his administration’s efforts to modernise agriculture, irrigation mechanisms, technical and vocational education skills.

Our Correspondent reports that, the Governor showcased this when the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House on the sidelines of the union’s NEC meeting held in the state Capital Dutse.

The Governor thanked the NUJ leadership for choosing Jigawa State to host the National Executive meeting, that serve as an opportunity to showcase some of the development initiatives being implemented by the state Government.

He appreciated the positive observations made by the visiting NUJ National leaders after inspecting some government projects.

The Governor said agriculture remained a top priority of the administration because the majority of the Jigawa population depend on it for their socio-economic living.

He said, the State has established 60 agricultural service centres supported by machinery, mechanics, drivers, managers and booking agents to improve farmers’ access to mechanised farming services.

He also highlighted the revitalisation of the Jigawa Research Institute in Kazaure aimed at improving yields and providing farmers with reliable information on crops best suited to different soil in the state.

On skills development, Governor Namadi said the State had established eight centres of excellence for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in addition to seven technical secondary schools.

He added that, one hundred youth have been sponsored for training in India and China on various technical trades to strengthen the institutions’ capacity.

Earlier Speaking the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, commended Governor Namad for the development initiatives of his administration as witnessed by his entourage during the projects monitoring tour and appealed for further investment in journalism education and support for media practitioners and veterans.

Before his departure, after the end of the NEC Meeting, the NUJ National President had an interactive session with Veterans at the Press Centre Dutse.
