National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has fulfilled his promise to support capacity-building among journalists by awarding scholarships to three members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, for the Institute’s Basic Certificate Course.

In a Press statement signed by the Secretary of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, FCT, Henrietta Momodu, the scholarship beneficiaries—Princess Joy Omagha Idam, Odion Abdulrazak Musa, and Okoro Chukwudi—were currently participating in the programme at the Athletes Development Centre in Abuja, where full academic activities have officially resumed, alongside those at two other strategic centres in Edo and Kaduna States.

It said that the gesture underscored the DG’s unwavering commitment to human capital development and his recognition of the critical role journalists play in promoting sports development in Nigeria.

Furthermore, the statement indicated that the scholarship award was in line with the renewed vision of the National Institute for Sports under the leadership of Philip Shaibu to broaden access to quality sports education, strengthen professional capacity, and encourage greater collaboration between the sports sector and the media.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, expressed appreciation to the Director General for keeping his promise.

Ojo described the scholarships as a demonstration of integrity, visionary leadership, and a genuine commitment to empowering journalists through education and professional development.

He noted that the gesture would further enhance the knowledge and competence of media practitioners covering the sports sector while deepening the cordial relationship between the National Institute for Sports and the Correspondents’ Chapel.

He assured the institute of the chapel’s continued support in projecting its programmes and achievements to the public.(Prime News 360)
