The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has assured party members, supporters, and candidates that the party will remain on the ballot for the 2027 general elections despite a recent Federal High Court judgment ordering its deregistration.
Reacting to the ruling delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Mark described the judgment as a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.
Speaking while receiving a delegation of ADC candidates in Abuja, he urged party faithful not to lose hope, insisting that the verdict would be overturned by higher courts.
According to Mark, the Court of Appeal had earlier issued a stay of proceedings in the matter and fixed October 27, 2027, for further hearing.
According to the Guardian he questioned the legality of a judgement being delivered while the appellate court's order remained in effect .
"The judgment cannot stand because it fails to meet the requirements of law and due process,” he stated.
"We believe it will be set aside by superior courts.
Democracy must be protected from actions that seek to limit the rights of political parties and the choices available to Nigerians."
The former Senate President called on ADC members across the country to remain calm, focused, and committed to the party’s objectives.
He emphasized that the ruling represents only a temporary setback and expressed confidence that the judicial process would ultimately favor the party.
Mark reiterated that the ADC remains committed to strengthening democratic institutions and providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative ahead of the next general election.
Assuring candidates and supporters of the party’s future, he declared that there was no reason for panic, stressing that the ADC would continue its preparations for the 2027 elections.
“The ADC will be on the ballot in 2027.
We remain resolute, confident in the rule of law, and committed to serving the Nigerian people,” he said.(Fidelity Reporters)
