Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has urged Muslims to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, unity and peaceful coexistence as they celebrate this year’s Eid el-Kabir.
In a Sallah goodwill message issued on Wednesday by Isma’il Uba Misilli, Director General Press Affairs Government House, the Governor described Eid el-Kabir as a season of compassion, sharing and obedience to Almighty Allah, calling on the Muslim Ummah to uphold the teachings exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Governor Inuwa Yahaya stressed the need for sustained prayers for peace, prosperity and development in Gombe State and Nigeria, particularly in view of the prevailing socio-economic and security challenges facing the country.
He noted that the peaceful and stable atmosphere enjoyed in Gombe State was a product of the enduring spirit of unity, tolerance and harmonious coexistence among the people, urging residents to preserve the culture of peace.
The governor, who also chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum, cautioned politicians and citizens against allowing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections to overshadow the spiritual significance of the Eid celebration.
According to him, the season should promote selflessness, compassion and love for one another rather than unhealthy political rivalry and division.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also appreciated traditional rulers, religious leaders and residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation with his administration, reaffirming his commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
He further urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities, assuring that his administration would continue to support security agencies in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across the state.
During the rainy season, the governor advised residents to adopt proactive environmental measures against flooding by keeping their surroundings clean, clearing drainage channels and avoiding flood-prone areas.
He prayed for peaceful and successful Eid celebrations as well as abundant rainfall and bumper harvests for the state and the nation.(The tentacles)
