A relief has come the way of workers in Kwara State-owned media with the approval of the state government for payment of 30 per cent peculiar allowance to them and their counterparts in agencies and parastatals.
The Acting Head of Service, Dr Mercy Olufunke Shittu, convened the government’s approval in a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday.
In the statement issued through the Press Secretary of HoS office, Solomon Okanlawon, the government disclosed that the implementation of the allowance takes effect from June 1, 2026.
The statement was titled “KWSG Approves 30% Peculiar Allowance for Agencies, Parastatals, Media Houses.”
The Herald reports that the approval of the allowance came after agitation from the leadership of various unions in the affected government establishments and meetings with the Acting HoS on the reason workers in the parastatals would have to benefit from the allowance.
It would be recalled that workers in the state core civil service have been enjoying the allowance since November last year when the state government approved it for them.
However, the government, in its statement on Monday, declared that the approval of the peculiar allowance for workers in parastatals was part of its continued commitment to workers’ welfare, equity, and inclusiveness across the state public service.
The Acting HoS said the gesture demonstrated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s dedication to improving the wellbeing and morale of workers in the state.
Shittu commended the Governor for his consistent support for the workforce and for sustaining policies that promote fairness and productivity within the civil service.
She urged workers in the affected establishments to remain committed, diligent, and supportive of government policies and programmes aimed at advancing the state.(The Windgate Author)
