A former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, who fled prior to his sentencing to 75 years imprisonment for his involvement in N33.8 billion fraud, has been arrested in Kaduna.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) picked up the convict around 3:30am on Tuesday.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja last week sentenced Mamman to the jail term after he was found guilty of the fraudulent charges the anti-graft agency preferred against him.
He was sentenced in absentia on 12 counts bordering on money laundering and fraudulent practices.
The anti-graft agency’s men reportedly mounted surveillance to know the whereabouts of the ex-minister with a view to taking him to prison after his conviction.
EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed the arrest of the convicted former Minister while addressing Journalists in Abuja, adding that he was arrested alongside two persons allegedly shielding him.
The anti-graft agency released the mugshots of the former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman after its operatives apprehended him.
It was learnt that he is currently being detained in the agency’s custody pending further legal proceedings.
Olukoyede disclosed that his agency is investigating the property where Mamman was arrested.
He said, “I’m happy to announce to Nigerians that at about 3:30 a.m. this morning, we arrested Mr Saleh Mamman.”(Windgate News)
