The Jigawa State Government has intensified efforts to enhance agricultural productivity through the rehabilitation of dams in Kazaure and Yakwashi Local Government Areas.

Inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation works at Dambo and Kuda dams, the Director General of the Jigawa State Agricultural Transformation Agency, Dr. Saifullahi Umar, said the projects were awarded by the administration of Umar Namadi as part of measures to boost irrigation farming and food security across the state.

In a Press Statement issued by the Agency’s Communication Officer, Nura Sani Bello, stated that the inspection visit was aimed at assessing the level and quality of work being carried out by the contractors handling the rehabilitation projects.

According to him, the two dams, when completed, will provide irrigation opportunities for about 500 hectares of farmland, thereby increasing dry-season farming activities in the benefiting communities.

He further disclosed that no fewer than 15,000 people are expected to benefit directly from the projects, noting that the initiative would significantly contribute to improving food production and strengthening food security in Jigawa State.

Speaking during the inspection, the Project Manager overseeing the rehabilitation works, Engr. Baffa Imam, assured the government and the benefiting communities that the projects would be completed within the stipulated contractual period.

The rehabilitation of the dams is part of the Jigawa State Government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda aimed at empowering farmers, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring sustainable agricultural development.Nigeria this Moment)
