Former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura has said the mandate to endorse aspirants for election rests solely with the people and not politicians.

Al- Makura disclosed this when he led the campaign team of former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu Abubakar on a visit to the Emir of Lafia ahead of the APC governorship primary election.

The former governor said, “The mandate to endorse rests with the people. And as far as we are concerned, Adamu has them in abundance,” Al-Makura said.

Al-Makura welcomed the party’s adoption of direct primaries, saying it reflected the will of the people.

“This has put a lie to anybody who will endorse anybody for whatever purpose.

We are happy that the exercise has come in line with what every lover of democracy would want. Not endorsement, no consensus, no preferential treatment, but the people must vote, their votes must count,” he said.

According to him, “By the special grace of God, we are going to come out in flying colors. But it must be said that those who preside over this exercise must ensure that it is in line with the Electoral Act, with the party guidelines, and every interested party must be part and parcel of the decision,” he said.

Former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu Abubakar and APC gubernatorial Aspirant in the state said he has secured widespread support from the people of Nasarawa State ahead of Thursday’s APC gubernatorial primary election.

He expressed confidence in the process and his ability to triumph, promising that he would return to the palace with good news after Thursday’s APC primary election in the state.

“We believe that victory is ours. We shall come back to this place, after the primaries on Thursday, we shall come to you with the good news that we have made it,” he said.

Adamu said he returned to thank the Emir and the Lafia Emirate for their backing since the start of his campaign.

“When we started this, I came to you for blessing, for prayer, and for direction.

You advised that we should not be distracted, that you are fully behind us, the Emirate is fully behind us, and Lafia people are behind us,” he said.

He said support in Lafia remained strong, noting that key stakeholders in the area were with his campaign.

"If I need support, it has to start from Lafia, and I’m very happy that all the people that matter are in our camp,” he said.

“Those that are not in our camp, we are not against them. It is interest they want to pursue, but we know they are very minimal.” He narrated.(Daily Trust)
