MEN of the Delta State Police command has arrested a 32- year-old Contractor for allegedly suffocating an 80 year old man who engaged him to renovate his building.

The incident, according to the State Police Command’s Spokesman Bright Edafe a Superintendent of Police occurred at Azagba-Ogwashi, Delta State, Nigeria on the 3rd of February this year.

Parading the suspect who gave his name as Alex Kayinde at the State Police Headquarters in Asaba on Thursday, Edafe said, “The 80 years old man who wanted to renovate his apartment and give it to tenants, contracted him to help with the renovation, only for the suspect to connive with another suspect presently at large to kidnap the old man.

“They used foam to cover his mouth as he began to shout and he eventually slumped and died”.

They didn’t stop there they took his phone and called his (deceased) son to mobilise the sum of N2m as ransom, claiming that his father was in their custody hale and hearty unknown to the son that the father was already dead.

Out of desperation, he raised the ransom and gave it to them which shared one million Naira each. After collecting the ransom they sold the man’s handset at the Ogbeogonogo market at the sum of N30,000.

The suspect was later arrested in Lagos State while the other suspect he engaged to assist in the renovation work is still on the run.

Asked why he decided to kidnap the man the arrested suspect said “we wanted more money”.(The town hall)
