As the world marks this year’s World Health Day, a non profit group, the Health For All Media Initiative (HAMI) has called on the Federal and State Governments to take urgent and deliberate steps toward strengthening the healthcare system through science-driven policies and inclusive investments.
This is contained in a statement made available to Newsmen in Kaduna and signed by its secretary, Sola Ojo.
Aligning with this year’s theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” as set by the United Nations, HAMI stressed that Nigeria’s path to improved health outcomes must be rooted in evidence-based decision-making, sustained funding, and coordinated action across all tiers of government.
The group noted that while Nigeria continues to grapple with challenges such as inadequate healthcare infrastructure, workforce shortages, rising cases of preventable diseases, and weak health communication systems, the solution lies in prioritising science, data, and community-centered approaches.
HAMI urges the Federal government to increase budgetary allocation performance in the health sector in line with global benchmarks, strengthen primary healthcare systems, and ensure the effective implementation of existing health policies.
It also calls on State Governments to replicate national health frameworks, invest in rural healthcare delivery, and improve access to essential services for vulnerable populations.
The Initiative further emphasises the need to combat misinformation, disinformation and malinformation, and rebuild public trust in health systems through transparent communication and sustained public engagement, especially in areas of vaccination, maternal health, and disease prevention.
“Nigeria cannot achieve universal health coverage without a unified approach that places science, equity, and collaboration at the center of health governance,” the statement read in part.
It reaffirms its commitment to amplifying health issues, promoting accountability, and supporting policies that advance equitable healthcare for all Nigerians.
