Mr. Sunday Daji, Director at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, (IPCR) on behalf of the Director-General, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, led the Institute’s Editorial Team of Contemporary World Nigeria magazine on an advocacy visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Council.
During the visit, he introduced the magazine and presented complimentary copies to journalists in the state.
In his speech during the visit, the coordinator of the Editorial Team, Dr Olalekan Babatunde underscores the importance of the magazine, noting the crucial role of the media in disseminating information and knowledge to the public.
He added that the magazine was designed to enlighten readers on global and international affairs, highlighting contributions from African scholars and writers.
“Journalists are the copper of knowledge, and Kano is one of our target areas,” he stated.
He noted that the quarterly publication covers a wide range of issues including: Climate change, Security, Disruptions in global politics, Diplomacy among other issues.
Dr. Babatunde explained that the magazine is targeted at policymakers, government officials, researchers, academics, youths, women, NGOs, and traditional and community-based organizations.

He added that complimentary copies can be found at Bayero University Kano (BUK) libraries, NUJ Secretariat, Ministry of Information and Education Kano, and national/state libraries.
He pointed out that since its inception in 2022, the magazine has published 13 issues.
“Contributors are invited to submit articles of about 3,000 words, with successful entries receiving honorarium after peer review.
Dr. Babatunde called on academics, stakeholders, and the public in Kano to take advantage of the magazine’s resources both physically and electronically, stressing its relevance to knowledge-sharing and policy development.
Responding to the visit, the Chairman of the Kano Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, expressed appreciation to the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution for its engagement with the media.
Speaking on his behalf, Vice Chairman Mustapha Gambo Muhammad stressed that information dissemination remains a fundamental responsibility of every journalist.
He assured that Contemporary World Magazine would be circulated among NUJ members for review, with the aim of contributing constructive input to future editions.
Comrade Dederi further acknowledged the Institute’s dedication to peace-building programs across the country, stressing that peace is indispensable and cannot be compromised in any society.(Justice Watch News)
