The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been nominated for a regional correspondents’ award by the Association of West African Legislative Correspondents (AWALCO) in recognition of her leadership and contributions to journalism.

The nomination was announced when the executive members of AWALCO, led by its President, Mr Innocent Odoh, paid a courtesy visit to Ike at the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat in Abuja.

Odoh said Ike’s achievements had distinguished her as a leader who had raised the bar in the NUJ, describing her commitment to journalism and leadership as inspiring.

He said the nomination followed deliberations by the association on individuals who had made significant contributions to journalism, particularly Ike’s achievements as former Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps and her current role as NUJ FCT chairman.

“For the first time in the history of the NUJ, a woman raised the bar. The feat being achieved by Comrade Grace is enormous and takes a lot of grace.

“We are indeed very impressed and inspired. It takes somebody with this kind of courage and commitment, and someone who will take charge of things, and we are really seeing the change,” Odoh said.

He explained that AWALCO had initially planned to hold its award ceremony last year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the ECOWAS Parliament, but the event was postponed at the request of the Parliament, which had its own award ceremony.(Nigerian Tribune)
