The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bayelsa State Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of women and children through strategic collaboration with relevant government institutions.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ in Bayelsa, Mrs Grace Orumieyefa, made the commitment on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Mrs Joanah Gigi.
She was accompanied by members of the State Executive Council and other members of the association.
According to Orumieyefa, the association remains committed to leveraging the media as a tool for promoting gender equality, protecting the rights of women and children, and supporting initiatives that foster inclusive development across Bayelsa State.
She stressed the need for stronger collaboration between NAWOJ and the ministry to enhance advocacy, public enlightenment, and awareness on issues affecting women, children, and other vulnerable groups.
Responding, the Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Mrs Joanah Gigi, commended NAWOJ for its consistent advocacy and professional reportage of issues of public interest.
She assured the association of the ministry’s readiness to partner with NAWOJ in implementing programmes and campaigns aimed at empowering women, protecting children, and promoting social development across the state.
Both parties expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen ongoing efforts to improve the welfare and quality of life of women, children, and vulnerable persons in Bayelsa State.(New Telegraph)
