The Shehu of Borno and Deputy President General of Jama’atu-Nasril Islam Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, has called on Muslims to embrace unity, peace, and moral renewal as preparations begin for this year’s Ramadan fast.
He made the call during his welcome address at the 2026 Pre-Ramadan Meeting held at the JNI Conference Hall in Kaduna, attended by Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, community leaders, and government representatives.
According to him, Ramadan is a divinely ordained period for spiritual purification, self-discipline, and sincere devotion to Almighty Allah.
He stressed that the holy month provides an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on their conduct and renew their commitment to the core teachings of Islam.
The Shehu of Borno noted that the lessons of Ramadan—compassion for the less privileged, restraint in words and actions, and the strengthening of family and community ties—are particularly relevant at a time when the nation is confronted with insecurity, economic hardship, and moral challenges.
He urged Muslims to uphold the values of moderation, tolerance, respect for human life, and obedience to constituted authority, emphasizing that these principles are essential for peace and stability in society.
Alhaji (Dr) El-Kanemi also highlighted the role of Jama’atu-Nasril Islam in promoting unity within the Ummah, fostering peaceful coexistence, and providing guidance to both leaders and the youth.
He encouraged Islamic scholars to intensify Tafsir and other religious engagements during Ramadan to reinforce moral discipline and accountability.
The Shehu further advised youths to pursue knowledge, uphold good character, and shun all forms of violence, extremism, and social vices, noting that the future of the Ummah and the nation depends largely on their conduct.
He concluded by praying for peace and harmony in the country, divine guidance for leaders at all levels, and a successful Ramadan for Muslims, marked by good health, security, and spiritual fulfillment.
