The member representing Mbamnga constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Abel Diah, has called for urgent relief assistance for the Warwar community in Sardauna Local Council Area following a heavy downpour that submerged residents’ houses, farmlands, farm produce and domestic animals.
Diah called on government agencies, development partners, philanthropists and other well-meaning Nigerians to provide relief materials and humanitarian assistance to the affected families.
Noting that the people’s livelihoods depended largely on agriculture, Diah described the disaster as a painful setback to the community, with many households now facing anxiety and uncertainty.
He stressed that the destruction of crops and farmland represented more than the loss of agricultural produce, as many farmers had invested months of hard work and resources in their farms, and the destruction created fresh difficulties for already vulnerable households.
Beyond emergency relief, the lawmaker urged the authorities to adopt sustainable measures to reduce the vulnerability of Warwar and neighbouring communities to flooding.
Meanwhile, The Guardian learnt that sustained support to enable the affected families to rebuild their lives and the protection of their livelihoods against further flooding, were equally important.(The Guardian)
