A team of journalists from different media organisations was involved in a road accident while covering the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission in Bauchi State.
The journalists were travelling with an NEDC delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, during the handover of projects to the Bauchi State Government.
The accident occurred today along the Yashi-Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, shortly after the commissioning of a Government Secondary School project in Yelwan Duguri town.
Some journalists sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Yelwan Duguri Hospital for emergency treatment as arrangements were being made to transfer them to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital for further care.
The injured journalists are from Channels Television, AIT, NTA, Arise News, and other members of the Correspondents Chapel, representing various media organisations covering the event.
Members of the delegation included the Minister, NEDC Chairman and Managing Director, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, alongside other government officials.
In the meantime, the Northeast Zonal leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has sympathised with the Journalists involved in the accident.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone E, we commiserate with the National Body, the Bauchi State Council, and the entire Union over the unfortunate accident involving some of our members from the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Channels Television, Bauchi State Television, and the Correspondents’ Chapel.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants the injured colleagues a quick and complete recovery.
The Zonal Leadership also commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the Bauchi State Government, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Information, Usman Usman, and the Special Adviser Media and Communication to the Bauchi State Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, for their swift and commendable response.
“We pray that Almighty God prevents the recurrence of such incidents in the future”.
