The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated working equipment to journalists who were involved in a motor accident during an inspection tour in Bauchi State.

Receiving the items, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, urged the Commission to support the health insurance of practising journalists in the North East sub-region.

He explained that the NUJ leadership has introduced a health insurance scheme requiring each practising journalist to pay N40,000, and called on the Commission to consider covering the fees on behalf of journalists in the zone.

According to him, the initiative aligns with the agenda of the present administration and will contribute significantly to the provision of quality and affordable healthcare services.

The NUJ President also commended the NEDC for its prompt intervention after the accident, noting that the support helped save many lives.

Earlier, the Minister of Regional Development, Maigari Ahmadu, said the Commission donated new working equipment to the journalists who were involved in the accident and were part of the NEDC entourage during the inspection tour to Yelwan Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
